Europe must host Gaza children impacted by war, Greek foreign minister says

Europe has a duty to host children hurt and traumatized by war in Gaza for as long as it takes, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said on Thursday.

In a statement, Dendias said that the European Union should take the lead in providing a safe haven for these children, who have been through unimaginable suffering.

“We cannot turn a blind eye to the plight of these innocent victims of war,” Dendias said. “Europe has a moral obligation to help them.”

The Greek foreign minister’s statement comes as the death toll in Gaza continues to rise. According to the United Nations, at least 212 Palestinians have been killed in the fighting, including 61 children. The Israeli military has also reported the deaths of 10 soldiers and three civilians.

The violence in Gaza began on May 10, when Hamas militants fired rockets into Israel. Israel responded with airstrikes, which have caused widespread destruction in the densely populated territory.

The United Nations Security Council has called for an immediate ceasefire, but so far there has been no sign of a breakthrough. The United States has also called for an end to the violence, but it has been criticized for not doing more to pressure Israel to stop its airstrikes.

The European Union has also called for a ceasefire, and has said that it is ready to provide humanitarian assistance to Gaza. However, the EU has been criticized for not taking a stronger stand against Israel’s actions.

Dendias’s statement is the strongest call yet from a European leader for Europe to take action to help the children of Gaza.
